A QUICKIE

Okay, I’m soooo very near the end of “Thirty Well Spent,” but I have a question that I’m sure someone who comes here will have an answer to:

When a person dies in the operating room of a hospital, where exactly is the body taken to and approximately how long after death is he or she taken there? I know it’s a little weird, but I’d appreciate any help.

Thanks,

JAB

They would go to the morgue of the hospital. Reason is to assign blame or find cause of death exactly so the hospital won’t get sued. The body would probably stay for several days depending on how long the autopsy took or how long the family took to claim it for a funeral.

my mom says that, the nurses usually clean the bodies up and then they go to what’s called the recovery room(usually a place for patients getting out of surgery) for their family to say good bye, after which they’re placed in the morgue, which (and my mom has worked in lots of hospitals), is always in the basement. My mom also said you have to have special clearance to get down there and then to get in too. she also says (I’m on the phone with her now) that they (morgues) are usually very poorly lit, or just dark most of the time, and they’re usually guarded.

Thanks, guys. I’s appreciates it. The info wasn’t that necessary to the story, but I wanted to try and get it as factual as possible, and then Sarah and I had a good-length conversation about it Sunday night. Again, thanks.
